Digital consultancy and fractional leadership for charities

A charity can have a website, several systems and committed suppliers, yet still lack a clear view of what should happen next. I help leadership teams connect digital decisions with their mission, capacity and operating needs.

Begin with the work the organisation needs to do

I start with the operational or audience problem, rather than assume the answer is another platform. That might be a difficult supporter journey, repeated administration, unclear reporting or a project that needs stronger direction.

The useful question is what would improve the organisation’s ability to deliver. A tool can be technically impressive and still add work for staff. Priorities should take account of the people maintaining the solution, the quality of existing information and the changes users can realistically adopt.

Provide senior direction without separating it from delivery

My background spans development, digital marketing, systems and project delivery. The published feedback on my website includes my work with the Martin James Foundation. I use that cross-functional perspective to help teams make decisions that survive implementation.

  • Assess the current position and identify the decisions holding progress back.
  • Turn objectives into a practical, prioritised roadmap.
  • Review proposals, requirements and supplier responsibilities.
  • Specify suitable website, integration or automation improvements.
  • Work with staff and suppliers to validate delivery.

I can advise, implement appropriate technical work or coordinate existing specialists. Those responsibilities are agreed explicitly so internal ownership remains clear.

Make governance useful and proportionate

A small charity does not need unnecessary bureaucracy, but it does need to know who owns accounts, data, decisions and ongoing costs. I help make dependencies and risks visible before they become expensive surprises.

Where a workflow involves supporter, staff or beneficiary information, the relevant data owner and safeguarding or privacy responsibilities need to be part of the decision. I do not treat an AI tool’s convenience as sufficient justification to upload sensitive information or automate a consequential judgement.

Choose a defined starting point

A focused review can be appropriate when the problem needs diagnosing. Fractional Digital Director support is more suitable when the organisation needs continuing senior input across priorities, suppliers and delivery. The existing service pages explain the current scope and published options.

Success measures should reflect the actual objective: fewer avoidable hand-offs, a functioning enquiry journey, dependable reporting or an agreed project delivered and checked. Not every useful improvement is a fundraising campaign, and not every saved staff hour becomes a cash saving. Tell me what the charity is trying to improve, the systems involved and what is currently getting in the way. I will recommend an appropriate starting point rather than a preselected technology.

Common questions

Can you work with our existing agencies and IT provider?

Yes. I can provide independent direction, clarify responsibilities, specify changes and validate delivery without requiring you to replace every supplier.

Do you offer a charity discount?

No separate charity rate is stated here. Scope, available support and any commercial arrangements are agreed before work begins. Current published services are linked below.

Can you help with AI adoption?

Where there is a suitable use case, yes. The assessment should include data, accuracy, human review, ownership and ongoing maintenance, rather than start with a tool purchase.
