SEO consultancy costs: choose the right engagement

The useful question is not “What does SEO cost?” It is “What work do I need, who will deliver it and what does that engagement include?” These are my published options, not a claim about an industry average.

Choose diagnosis or implementation deliberately

If the cause of underperformance is unclear, buying a monthly list of tasks may waste money. A defined review establishes the evidence and priorities. If you already have a sufficiently detailed, credible diagnosis, the next purchase may be implementation rather than another audit.

A general commercial review is also different from a specialist search investigation. Conversion, analytics, customer journeys and the offer itself can explain weak results even when the website attracts traffic.

Website Action Plan£199 one-offFocused advice and prepared files; implementation separate
Digital Growth Review£950 fixed priceCommercial diagnosis across website, search, conversion and analytics

Each service page explains its standard scope and delivery terms. Read those details alongside the price; this table is a comparison, not an expansion of what is included.

When continuing leadership is the better fit

Fractional Digital Director support is published at £750 per month for up to one day, £1,400 for up to two days and £2,600 for up to four days. It provides continuing senior support across agreed priorities, rather than an unlimited SEO implementation retainer.

Additional implementation projects and third-party costs are quoted separately. Ongoing consultancy outside a published package is scoped around the responsibility, time and complexity involved; there is no invented standard fee for every website.

What changes the scope

  • Multiple domains, countries, languages or business units.
  • Large catalogues, complicated filters or legacy applications.
  • Limited reporting access or missing documentation.
  • Dependencies on several suppliers or slow release processes.
  • Content production, migration or software development beyond the agreed review.

These factors do not automatically justify a higher bill. They change the amount of investigation and delivery required, which should be explained before work begins.

Compare the complete buying decision

Check whether a quote covers advice, implementation, content, developer support, reporting and validation. Establish who pays for software, advertising, hosting and specialist suppliers. Confirm any applicable tax treatment and the agreed commercial terms in the written quotation.

A fixed fee is useful only with a defined scope. The cheapest report may leave substantial work unbudgeted; an ongoing engagement may be unnecessary for a problem that can be resolved through a focused project.

Common questions

Is the £199 plan a full SEO audit?

No. It is a focused Website Action Plan with defined prepared deliverables. Its service page explains the boundaries.

Do published prices apply to every website?

No. Standard prices cover the stated standard scope. Larger or more complex environments are assessed and quoted before commitment.

Does a review include all recommended changes?

No. Implementation is separate unless the agreed service scope expressly includes it.
